Film Noir, in my opinion is much too depressing and gloomy. Although the genre does have its high points such as the slick hero and the somewhat appealing nature the hero goes about flirting with women. Other than the smooth talking and the sexy women, the genre is often boring and outdated. The directors were produce this genre are the sort of people who live in the past, and yes I understand that the genre has its value, but for the audience of today, noir is not the type of movie for the average person. As I said earlier, noir is gloomy and people no days don’t particularly like a sad setting. People look for the positive in which todays films bring to us. Many people feel noir films are too negative and are pushed away from these films. The audience of today does not necessarily care much for the art and value the noir films are built on. A select few go beyond what is just portrayed in the film, and really try to read in between the lines if you will. To appreciate the old fashion values this nation used to uphold. Films today consist of more violence, and the film industry will give it to us. If we as an audience wanted more noir films we would have it, but we are changing, the sex and violence and that edge of your seat rush is much more attractive than a slow set film. People enjoy the exposition of the female body and male form. Film noir takes a while for the “juicy” parts to take place. In today’s film it’s; a couple car chases, gunfights during the day then bam, the action hero or villain gets the hot girl in bed. Overall I think people need to be maybe a little more open mind to this type of genre so they can absorb the value and appreciate the art the goes into noir films.
